Day 1 - "Amounting to Much"

Romans 12:2, 8:28-29

I shared a paper route with my older brother for four years while we were in grade school.
I was young, but it was a small town where everybody knew everybody,
and it was mostly a safe time and place to grow up.
So, it was okay for me to be out and about on my own when I was but 7-11 years old!

I didn't talk much then (boy, have things changed!).
My customers would ask me questions all the time
just to try to get me to do more than mumble or grunt.
One of the teasing questions I remember most was,
“Do you think you'll ever amount to anything?”
I had no answers to give. What kid would?

At this writing, I am 67 years old and often I think it is still a valid question!
A better question though would be what it means to amount to much.
By what standards ought we measure success;
what should we value enough in life for which to develop aspirations?

I know now that God made me for a relationship with Him
that will last forever and pleasing Him is the main purpose in life.
Measure your successes and accomplishments
by how much you have wanted to please Him and acted accordingly.
Man's approval matters little. We ought to be living to become
what God wants us to become
- more and more like Jesus!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we humbly ask for Your help in transforming the way
we think and therefore act so that we will be more like Jesus.
Help us amount to something for Your glory!
