Psalm 26:2-4; Galatians 6:3, 7-9
A 1955 hit song by the Platters says,
“Oh yes, I'm the great pretender.”
Hiding his true feelings behind a false face of smiles.
I have always had a great imagination.
Since my brother was older than me,
he often had other things to do than to play with me.
I learned early in life to entertain myself.
I could easily imagine an entire scenario wherein I
was the hero - a cowboy, a soldier, a spy, - it didn't matter.
Perhaps that's part of why I like to write.
I can pretend to be the heroes in my stories.
Truth is, though, I'm not a spy, never served
in the military, and have barely even shot a gun!
I have only ridden a horse a few times and then only walking.
It wouldn't take long at all for anyone to see
I'm no cowboy or soldier, much less a spy or superhero.
Just a great pretender.
That's okay for playing and writing,
but in real life we need to be real people.
God knows our hearts and our thoughts.
He is never fooled. And honestly, in time,
most people can see through our hypocrisy, too.
Abraham Lincoln was right - honesty is the best policy.
The Bible says to be a person of your word.
Don't try to fake it. Be genuine in your relationships.
Be honest, true, and even somewhat open.
People don't need to know everything
but what they do know about you ought to be real.
Prayer: Our Father in heaven, nothing in this world
is right and good without You.
Nothing is real unless You make it so.
Help us to be honest with ourselves,
other people, and most of all You.
