Day 18
"Take the Music With You!"

Psalm 68:24-26; Ephesians 5:18-20

I remember buying my first transistor radio.
It might seem strange to many that are younger than me,
but until then you could only listen to music
in the car or at home where you could plug in
a radio or use a record player.
But the day came when you could get a battery powered radio
you could carry in your hand or in a leather holder
strapped to your belt or bike.

Man was that cool! I could listen to music
as I rode my bike or walked on my paper route.
Music is powerful. It can pump you up or calm you down.
It can make you happy or sad.
It can keep you awake or put you to sleep.
It opens up your heart and soul
and works on your emotions.
And I could take it with me!

God created music and made us to where we can respond to it.
That's why you have to be careful with it!
The music opens up your heart and mind
and then the words get in there.
Be careful what you listen to because the bad
can get in there as easily as the good.

We use music at church to open our hearts to God.
Good lyrics help us worship and learn.
God even told us in His word
to speak to each other using music.
It's a great tool. It's a great pastime.
But be careful how you use it
and how you let others influence you.
Get some good music. Get some godly music.
Put it in your heart and take it with you!

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for the music! It is a special blessing in life and worship.
We pray that more people would use their God-given abilities for praise and worship.
Help us take advantage of the opportunities we have
to listen to, play, and sing Your music!
