Day 19
“Delivering Important News”

Romans 1:16, 10:13-17

Where were you when you heard
that President John F. Kennedy had been shot?
I was in fourth grade at Forsyth Grade School.
Our principal interrupted class to deliver the news.
We were shocked and saddened.
We had no idea what would happen next.

Things were so much different back then.
No satellite TV - you could not see instantly what was happening live.
No “around the clock” television to tell us
in real time what was happening.
No cell phones to communicate with nearly anyone anywhere
and certainly not to transmit pictures and videos of our own.

We had the nightly news on a few stations,
but that was brief coverage.
We relied on the newspapers. I remember the papers being bigger
than usual for several days after the president was assassinated.
So much news and information - so much to report.
People had lots of questions and wanted to know.
I remember feeling like it was a great responsibility
to get them their papers!
This was a serious time - for serious news.

How much more serious is it every day to get
people the news that can change them forever?!
The word ‘gospel’ means good news.
People need to hear the good news that
God made them for a relationship with Him.
That even though our sin messed that up,
God has a way to fix it. The Father sent the Son
to be the Savior of the world (1 John 4:14). He paid for our sin
by sacrificing His life on a cross.
He rose from the dead to prove He is God
and can forgive us, save us, and cleanse us.
People need that news. If you know this yourself,
look for ways to deliver it to others!

Prayer: Our Father in heaven, there is no better news
than the fact that You love us and
have made it possible for us to have a relationship with You.
Help us to recognize that so much of the world
does not realize this, so we need to find ways to deliver
the news to them and try to convince them of its importance.
