Psalm 147:3; 2 Corinthians 5:17
Broken things fixed here.
That could have been the motto of one of my neighbors
across Smith St. back in my childhood.
Cliff McCay was the grade school janitor
and a neighborhood friend.
Despite missing one arm, he was adept with tools.
Besides being the school custodian,
Cliff had a little shop in back of his house.
He would get old and damaged bicycles and fix them
or combine parts to make a new bike.
He would clean it up, repaint it, and sell it.
I bought two from him over the years,
trading the first one in on the second one.
“Broken things fixed here” would be a good motto
for Jesus or even a church!
In the 1970s, my wife and I used to sing
a gospel song called, “Give Them All to Jesus.”
The lyrics included “shattered dreams,
wounded hearts, and broken toys.”
Cliff could make a bicycle mess look and work like new.
How much more can Jesus take a human mess
and forgive, cleanse, and empower to make us like new.
If anyone is in Jesus Christ, he is a new creation.
How about it? Life in a mess for you right now?
Give it all to Jesus. Broken things are fixed here!
Prayer: Dear Lord, we are so grateful that You did not give up
on us even though we were broken spiritually.
You saved us, cleansed us, and made us brand new.
Help us tell others that You can fix them, too.
