Day 30 - "Hide and Seek"

Psalm 139:1-14

Close your eyes and count to one hundred.
That's how long everyone except for “It” has to hide.
“It” is whoever's turn it is to seek out the “hiders”
and tag them before they can make it safely back to base.
The base was usually a big tree.

“Hide and Seek” was a game that filled many hours
of play time for us in Forsyth in the sixties.
You can play it day or night.
We usually played from dusk ‘til after dark.
It was lots of fun trying to find a good hiding
place where “It” would likely not find you.
Yet, you wanted to be able to get out quickly
when “It” strayed too far from the base or
got focused on trying to tag some other hider.
That was your best chance to get to base safely.

Where should I hide? Where could I go that no one
could see me - wouldn't even think to look?
Sometimes, it was easy;
sometimes the seeker was more adept at finding
than I was at hiding.
With God as the seeker - and He always is -
it is certain that He will find you.

You can't actually hide from God.
He knows not only your location at all times,
but also your thoughts, your heart,
and your dreams and goals.
Your entire life is an open book to Him.
The dark is no challenge for Him.
He made you. He knows you.
He loves you. He wants what's best for you.
Your best move is not to hide and not to run -
unless you are running to Him.

God is the ultimate seeker.
There is no point in trying to hide!

Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, we know that You see
and know everything and that there is no hiding
from You, yet sometimes we try.
Help us give that practice up and
simply surrender to Your Lordship.
Help us instead, to willingly, joyfully come
to You regardless of our circumstances or feelings.
