Day 4 - "Reading is Rewarding"

Ps. 119:33-40; Acts 17:11

Of the proverbial “3 Rs,” - Reading wRiting and ‘Rithmetic,
I'd say being able to read is the most valuable.
It would be especially so if we read the right things.
Growing up in Forsyth, we were taught all three and more and I'd say taught well.
Of course, we had books and reading courses in schools
but for a while we also had access to more books.
A bookmobile came to town from Decatur every so often and
we could go browse and check-out books inthe big “library truck.”

It is invaluable to be able to read with good comprehension.
It is also very important to be able to express yourself well,
both verbally and by writing.
All three abilities are very helpful in our spiritual walk as well.
It is so vital to our own growth and beneficial to others
that we can read and understand God's Word and explain it to others.

I fear though, that we have neglected the reading and teaching
of the scriptures in deference to reading and knowing more of man's writings.
The Bible is the inspired word of the one and only true God.
It is how we get to know Him
and how to live appropriately in that relationship.
It is still the best-selling book of all time,
but is it the most-read book of all time? How about in your life?

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, we want to thank You that You saw fit
to reveal Yourself to us and to give us an inspired account of Your work
throughout the ages to bring us back into a right relationship with You.
We are also thankful for all those who have dedicated their lives
to the writing, transcribing, translating, preserving,
and teaching and preaching of Your Word.
Forgive us for not making the most of opportunities to be in the Word.
