Day 7
"Only One Opinion Counts"

Acts 4:19, 5:29; Romans 8:16 1 Thessalonians 2:4

Fastpitch softball was king in the 1960s and at least into the mid-1970s.
My Uncle Howard was a manager for a few Decatur teams over the years.
My cousin Jack was a great player on those teams.
My dad played some, then umpired for 17 years
and became an ASA Hall of Fame umpire (Amateur Softball Association)!
I grew up at the ballparks in Decatur during those summers.
I saw the best in the country play softball.

I also heard my dad getting griped at, called names, cussed out, etc.
He was the umpire - one of the best.
Requested by the best teams and coaches.
But every single call bothers half the players, coaches, and crowd!
“Are you blind? That was a ball!” “You missed that call ump!”
“What do you mean out?! He was safe by a mile!”

My dad’s self-proclaimed slogan was, “Never missed a call in 17 years!”
Everyone had their own opinion about the play, but the truth was,
there was only one opinion that counted - my dad’s.
Not because he was my dad - not because
he was a good man - but because he was the umpire!

You may not agree with the calls God makes
in the world at large or in your world,
but the truth is, your opinion really doesn't matter.
He is God, not you, not me. When you create your world,
you can decide what's true, what's right, and what's best for everyone.
Until then, we should go along with the only one
who is qualified to run things - God!

Prayer:Father, forgive us for thinking too highly of our own opinions
and caring more about our agenda than the one You have for us.
Help us to care more about what You think than what man thinks.
