Luke 15:8-10
I never endorse checks until just
before the deposit with the bank.
Well, except for that one time.
I don't know why, but I signed a salary
check at home before heading to the bank.
I folded the check and put it in
my shirt pocket. I did a few more
things around the house and left.
After some work at the church,
I returned home and changed into
some exercise clothes, putting
my shirt in the laundry basket.
Later I realized I had not gone to the bank.
I remembered putting the check in my
shirt pocket, so I retrieved the shirt
from the laundry and reached for
the check. It was not there!
I checked the basket - nothing!
I checked my jeans pockets and
my jacket pockets - no check.
I looked on the dresser
and around my workstation at home;
I checked the van. I went back to the
church and retraced my steps there - no check.
I searched the van again. Back
at home I re-checked everything,
two more times. No check!
I was beginning to panic. The check
was signed. I sat down and thought
it through. I prayed, but I had
already been praying for 30 minutes.
I went through my day again in my mind.
Then it hit me. After putting the check
in my pocket and doing a few small
chores at the house, I had decided
to change shirts and did not transfer
the check from the first one.
I had been looking in the wrong shirt pocket!
I found the check right where
I put it and I was one - happy - camper!
Jesus searches and attracts and does even
more to bring the lost to Himself.
He did that for you and me, too.
We should rejoice when anyone
gets saved. We should also do
whatever it takes to help reach
the lost around us. The woman
who lost the coin and the preacher
who lost his check were
desperate to find their money.
How desperate are we for lost souls?
Prayer: Father, help us to be like Jesus and
do whatever it takes to seek the lost.
Help us to keep searching, just
like the woman who lost the coin.
P.S. “I once was lost, but now I'm found"...
When some people get saved,
they say they've found Jesus.
If you think of the parable of
the hidden treasure, I guess that's okay.
But we were the lost ones. Jesus found us!
