Day 22
Parable of the Talents

"Use What You Have"

Matthew 25:14-30

Being a people-observer over the years,
I've noticed this about many, perhaps
all of us at one time or another.
That is, that we often fail to use
what we have because we are seeking even more,
or are afraid of losing what we have, or both.
It can apply to money, personal possessions,
abilities and talents, intellect,
and even just personalities.

It has been a saying for at least a
few hundred years, but more recently,
Spiderman's father told him that
“with great power comes great responsibility.”
In other words, use what you have for good,
not selfish or evil, purposes.

The meaning of the parable is that God,
as our Master, has given us many
resources to use for His glory.
We are accountable to use them
and therefore will be judged accordingly.
Two of the servants acted wisely,
put their resources to good use,
and were rewarded for it. The third
was afraid of losing his resources,
acted foolishly and selfishly,
and was punished.

Which will it be for you?
Whatever blessings and resources God
has given you are for His glory.
How are you “investing” your mind,
personality, abilities, talents,
money, and possessions - for your
kingdom or God's? It's simple really.
If you want to hear “well done
thou good and faithful servant,”
then be good and faithful!

Prayer: Father, help us to realize that it is not about
us but rather about You and Your Kingdom.
So please help us to use the
blessings and resources You have given us
in ways that would please and honor You.

P.S.: I heard the stepbrother of Elvis Presley
share in chapel when I was in college.
He said that in his opinion, Elvis
was a Christian, but one
that had failed to use his talents
for the Lord like he should have.
He felt that that is why
Elvis died at such a young age.
