Matthew 21:28-32
I've noticed that some sayings
and proverbs are so old that younger
generations have never even heard them.
That makes them new again, doesn't it?
“The proof is in the pudding” was
likely originally stated as “the proof
of the pudding is in the eating.”
Either way, the real test of whether
pudding is any good, is to eat it!
You can admire it and talk about it
all you want, but only by
eating it can you prove it is good.
Jesus was speaking to the religious Pharisees
when he told the parable of the two sons.
The father told both to go work
in the vineyard. The first said,
“No,” but changed his mind later and went.
The second said he would go but didn't.
The Pharisees understood that it was the
first son who actually did the father's will.
Jesus said that He was referring
to repentant sinners and that the
Pharisees were the disobedient sons!
They professed to be God's obedient
children, but in reality, they were not!
It would be wise for each of
us to do a little self-examination
to see which son we are. Do we look
and talk a good one without true obedience?
Or do we actually follow through
and do as God asks us to do?
The proof is in the pudding!
Prayer: Father, teach us what true Christianity is
and help us to put that into practice.
P.S.: Have you ever bragged about what you
would do if you ever got the chance,
only to later get that chance
and fail to live up to your word?
We probably all have. It's not so much
about keeping quiet in the first place,
but rather about following through and
doing what you know to do is right.
That is how we honor God.
