Matthew 18:21-35
In one episode of the TV show
“Walker, Texas Ranger,” a young boy stole
the baby Jesus from the outdoor
nativity scene of the local church.
He hoped it would bring much needed
help and blessings to his family.
Eventually, the Ranger got him to return
the figure and in penitence, the boy asked
if Walker and others could possibly forgive him.
The Ranger’s response was that if
the Lord Jesus could forgive him (Walker),
for his sins, then surely Walker could
forgive the boy for taking the nativity Jesus.
His point was the same one
Jesus made to Peter and to us.
Since God has forgiven us for our sin,
which is great against God, surely,
we can forgive others for the wrong
they do to us. It just is
not right to want forgiveness if we can't give forgiveness.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for forgiving
me for my sins. Please help me have that
same spirit for those who may do me wrong.
P.S. Jesus spoke from the cross,
"Father, forgive them."
With what they did to Him -
what we've done to Him -
how can we withhold forgiveness from others?
