2 Timothy 3:16-17
Ooooh, that feels good! That tastes good!
You did a good job! My kids get good grades in school.
He's a good athlete. She has a good job.
On and on it goes - each a
slightly different meaning of the term “good.”
Yet, they all bring the idea of approval, satisfaction
or morality - profitable, valuable, or productive.
The Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy, his young pastor protege,
about the word of God and how it is good for us.
Specifically, he gave four good uses for the Bible:
1) it shows us the path to walk on (teaching),
2) it tells us when we’ve gotten off the path (rebuking),
3) it tells us how to get back on the right path (correcting), and
4) it trains us in how to stay on the path (training in righteousness).
In short, the Bible is simply good stuff!
And why is that so? Because it is inspired by God Himself.
God is good and the Bible is His
thoughts, words, and deeds, so it is good, too!
So, explain to me - since it is so good
in so many ways, why don't we read and study it more?
Prayer: Father, open our eyes to see the value of your word.
Stir up our hearts to want it.
Open our minds to understand it.
Stir us to put it into practice.
P.S. Remember this song we used to sing as kids?
The B-I-B-L-E ! Yes, that’s the Book for me.
I stand alone on the Word of God – the B-I-B-L-E !
