Luke 10:38-42
Good, better, or best? All costs being equal,
which would you choose?
Sure - the best! Why would anyone settle
for less than the best if they have a choice?
I often wonder if we don't spend so much time in food
preparation for a family feast such as Thanksgiving
dinner, that we miss out on great family time!
Why don't we choose what is best
and maybe eat a little less?
Martha chose good over best! She chose a good thing,
serving Jesus, over the best thing, being with Jesus.
She even asked Jesus to make her sister, Mary join her in serving.
Jesus pointed Martha in the right direction.
He told her that “sitting at His feet”,
spending time with Him, learning from Him,
was better than doing things for Him.
Based on other scriptures and experience, I am sure that
spending time with Jesus will generally lead to service,
but it will be service done with the right spirit,
power, and motivation, that comes from time with Him.
Be careful that you don't spend so much time
in serving the Lord that you fail
to leave time or take time to be with Him.
Prayer: Lord, help us focus on spending time with You.
Help us to worship, pray, study, and
learn before we try to serve.
P.S. Jesus often got tired from doing ministry.
When He did, we see Him in the scriptures going off
to a place by Himself to spend time with the Father.
Surely if Jesus saw the need, we have the need.
I think spending time with the Lord is about being our best.
Only then can we really do our best!
