Matthew 6:25-34
We used to sing an old chorus by Alfred B. Smith that said,
“Why worry, when you can pray?
Trust Jesus, He’ll be your “stay.”
Don't be a doubting Thomas - rest fully on His promise.
Why worry, worry, worry, worry - when you can pray?!”
We should know by now that God loves us.
He watches over us. He has our best interest at heart.
What promises can we “rest fully on”?
Eternal salvation. He'll never leave us.
He will provide all our needs.
Seek His kingdom first and He will
take care of your needs - food, clothing, shelter, and more.
Worry comes from doubts and fears.
We are all guilty sometimes.
Obviously, the answer is found in Jesus.
Maybe what we need is a refresher course
on what to do instead of worrying.
According to the chorus - pray!
Faith is the opposite of fear and it comes from
knowing God's Word. So, read the Bible.
Music can help, so praise instead of fret!
Idle hands and minds can soon lead to anxiety,
so get busy for the Lord.
There are many ways to take the focus
off of what's worrying you and put it
on the One who can take care of it.
Seek Him and His righteous ways and
let Him handle the things you can't!
Prayer: Lord, help me focus on You
through prayer, Bible reading, and worship.
I do have needs and concerns,
but help me trust You to take care of them.
P.S. “Cast all your cares upon Him, for He cares for you.” - I Pet. 5:7
Here’s another chorus we used to sing:
“I cast - all my cares - upon You.
I lay - all of my burdens -
down at Your feet.
And any time - I don't know - what to do,
I will cast - all my cares - upon You.”
