Americans pride themselves for having strength.
We love superheroes, super athletes, and muscle cars,
and love movies where the tough and
strong whoop up on the “bad guys.”
Unfortunately, we have downplayed love, compassion,
morality, ethics, and even intelligence in favor
of physical strength, perhaps NOT realizing
that those are strengths in their own right.
Yet, in a world of violence, we believe we absolutely need
a strong military force, brave law enforcement agencies,
and leaders who are not afraid to lead.
So, what is the best way?
Well, there is usually not a one-size-fits-all answer,
but throughout the scriptures we see that God
is much more powerful and wiser than men.
It makes sense for us to go out in His strength
to fight the battles that He calls us to fight.
Gideon said he was the weakest link
in a family-chain of lackluster Israelites.
Surely God would not want him as a leader!
But God said, “Yes!” God uses the weak
and the few to win His battles.
He provides the wisdom and power. That way,
when battles are won, men cannot take the credit.
That should encourage us to follow Christ and
attempt great things, if we know God is leading.
He will make us strong! He will fight for us.
He can defeat armies even without us!
Take heart, even when you feel weak or
unworthy or unable to serve the Lord.
He doesn't need your ability, but rather your availability.
Prayer: Father, help us to realize that we cannot win spiritual
battles on our own and it is
a good thing to let you fight them for us.
Help us to trust you even when
the odds seem too great against us.
P.S. God provides strength in many ways.
He might just give extra strength in time of need.
He might give wisdom to know when to do what.
He might provide others to help you or even take over.
I know that in my recovery periods
from heart procedures and even since then,
due to some loss of strength, others
in the church have stepped up and taken over for me.
In some ways we have become stronger
as a church body because MY body is weaker!
