2 Timothy 2:15
I learned today's verse as a young boy.
It helped spur me on to learn the Bible.
I learned the stories and the names of people in the Bible.
I memorized the books of the Bible and lots of verses.
I excelled in what we called sword drills,
quickly finding verses, reciting verses from memory,
and reeling off the list of Bible books in order
from memory faster than others could read them.
Later, I studied to learn more about the truths
and principles found in those stories and verses.
It was easier then, because I had already learned the words.
I could focus on the messages!
A little later yet, I could clearly see why God had instilled
in me the desire to study and know the Word.
I would be teaching and preaching it, explaining it
to others, hopefully inspiring them to want to know it too.
This single verse says we need to do our best
to be an approved worker for God,
one who truly knows what the Bible says.
I have worked at that for years and years,
but I still have a long way to go.
Another good verse of scripture is 1 Peter 1:13,
which tells us to prepare our minds for action.
We are constantly in danger from spiritual warfare
and must be ready for action at a moment’s notice.
Our church teaches kids the Bible books in order.
They have learned countless verses and stories.
We sing songs that come from scripture.
I hope we are raising up young adults
and kids who will soon be adults,
who know what the Bible says and
will become workers that God approves.
How about you? Are you working to be approved
workers for God? Are you helping others do the same?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, give us the desire to know more.
Help us to learn it. Make us more like You.
P.S. The AWANA children’s program is
now famous around the world!
It is a Bible-centered program for children that
hopes to lead them to faith in Christ,
and then develop them into strong believers.
They memorize verses and learn what the verses mean.
Churches all over the world
have touched millions of young lives.
You have probably heard of it,
but do you know what AWANA stands for?
